Roadtrip Diary - January 2010
Anawhata Beach
West Coast
25 JANUARY 2010: We've never quite made it to Anawhata Beach before. First there's a winding 10km road, unsealed and corrugated, to negotiate by car; followed by a steep track to slither down on foot. The sign at the carpark says it's a half hour walk to the beach which is only a slightly conservative estimate. We stop to admire the view at regular intervals so it takes us longer than that.
The reward is a beach we can almost call your own. The few people who are there get absorbed into the landscape, distant spots of colour and movement that don't impact our day. I think this is the prettiest of the West Coast beaches... MORE >
